Sienna Raw 730, An Orange Earth For Timber And Fur
Sienna raw is colour 730 in Staedtler's 371 range, an orange leaning earth tone, and the listing supplies ten 371-730 pigment brush pens.
Traditional painters have used raw sienna for centuries as the warm ground under landscapes, and the ink version does the same job. It is the colour of pine boards, cork, a fox, a ginger cat, a sandstone cliff in late sun, dry grass in summer. In a sketchbook it is a good single colour for quick tonal studies with a warm feel.
Draw the grain of a table in 730, then add umber 790 over the dried ink for the darker lines, and the two read as timber. Over a pale yellow it warms towards gold; under a brown it gives the brown some glow. Staedtler say Multi Ink stays waterproof when dry, so it pairs with a watercolour sky.
Staedtler put 730 in Greys and Caramels 371 C6-4, Warm Colours 371 C12-5 and the 24 and 36 colour boxes.
