A Deep Wine Red For Lettering And Rich Shading
Bordeaux, Staedtler colour 23, is a dark wine red, and this box listing supplies ten 371-23 pigment brush pens in it.
Where a bright red can look loud on a place card or a menu, bordeaux reads as rich and formal, so it is a popular pick for wedding and event lettering, Christmas cards and autumn themed journals. In illustration it does the work of the shadow side of anything red: cherries, roses, lips, a red car in shade. It also stands on its own for monochrome drawings where one dark colour carries all the tone.
Inside is Multi Ink, the pigment India ink Staedtler use across the Pigment Arts pens. Their notes cover quick drying, colour that holds up to years of light, waterproof lines once dry and no show-through on the reverse of the sheet. After the ink has set, white or metallic details and watercolour can be laid over the top without dragging the red.
The close-up, in-use and icon photos Staedtler publish for the 371 range all show this bordeaux pen.
