Sixteen Colours With Room To Blend
Staedtler 241 NC16 holds 16 assorted oil pastels, the middle set in the 241 range, adding pink, violet, golden ochre and van dyke brown to the basic twelve.
Those four extra crayons make a real difference to what a student can paint. Golden ochre and van dyke brown give natural earth tones for landscapes, animals and wood, while pink and violet open up flowers, sunsets and skin shading without having to mix every tint from red and white.
Each crayon is round and about 8 mm across. Staedtler call them brilliant and colour-intensive, waterproof too, and especially break-resistant, so they stand up to the pressure of blending and layering. The pastels suit colouring as well as the scraping technique, and Staedtler say they work on almost all smooth surfaces.
A box of 16 is a good fit for a student art kit or a family craft drawer. Need the full spread? The 25 colour box is the largest in the 241 range.
