Mid-Range 6B Aquarell for Bolder Graphite Washes
Mars Lumograph aquarell 6B, sold in a box of 12, sits in the middle of the three aquarell degrees: darker than 4B, easier to control than 8B.
This is a water-soluble graphite pencil, so the marks behave twice. Dry, 6B gives a rich, soft line for shading; brushed with clean water, the same graphite flows into a mid-grey wash that can be layered for depth.
Staedtler describe high break-resistance during sharpening and use, a velvet-soft feel with a smooth gliding lead, and strokes that reproduce well. Lead diameter is approx. 3.6 mm, the same across all three aquarell degrees, inside a blue hexagonal barrel with a black end cap printed 6B.
Pair it with a water brush for quick tonal studies outdoors, or with a round synthetic brush on watercolour paper at the desk. Sharpen it in a 510 10 metal model or a 511 001 tub, as Staedtler advise.
