The Academy Scale Ruler For Small Reductions
Staedtler 961 80-1AS is an Academy oval scale ruler carrying 300mm scales at 1:1 and 1:2 on the front and 1:5 and 1:10 on the back.
Those four ratios stay close to full size, which is what design and technology students meet first: workshop drawings, product and furniture details, joinery sections and engineering parts drawn at half, a fifth or a tenth. The 1:1 edge doubles as an ordinary millimetre rule.
Staedtler describe the Academy range as an inexpensive range of quality scale rulers, durable, with long lasting graduations, and ideal for students. The oval section gives four working edges on one flat ruler, two on each face.
Students moving on to building and site plans usually need the 961 80-2AS or 961 80-3AS, which carry the 1:100 to 1:500 ratios. The 1AS is also catalogued by Staedtler as AS1212-1.
