A White Lead That Shows Up Where Ink Disappears
Staedtler 768N-0 is the white Lumocolor non-permanent omnichrom leadholder, sold here as a single marker for one bench, toolbox or lab drawer.
Instead of a felt tip it carries a water-soluble lead of about 3 mm, pushed out and pulled back with one hand. Staedtler say it gives opaque marks on almost every surface, including dark and transparent ones: paper, plastic, metal, glass, wood, leather and stone. White is the colour to choose when the surface itself is dark, such as black plastic housings, dark timber or tinted glass.
The marks are non-permanent. Staedtler's notes say a mark comes away from many smooth surfaces with a wipe and will wash out of a lot of fabrics; on paper the lead will not bleed through. When the job is done the lead retracts back into the barrel so it is not damaged in a pocket.
When the lead wears down, the holder takes Staedtler's 218 refill leads, and 218-0 is the white tray of 12. Staedtler mark the 768 with their Made in Germany and lightfast pictograms.
