A Middle Cool Grey For Cast Shadows And City Sketches
This pack listing brings ten Staedtler 372-87 pigment soft brush pens in cool grey medium, the middle step of the cool grey trio.
Medium cool grey is where most of the shading in a drawing actually sits. It gives a cast shadow on a tabletop, the underside of a car, the shade side of a building, concrete paths, steel and glass. Urban sketchers and product designers use a grey like this to give an object weight once the lightest tone is down. The soft 372 tip lets you lay a flat band of shadow with the side of the brush, then lift to a point to sharpen a corner.
Multi Ink is a translucent pigment India ink, so grey laid over colour tints it rather than hiding it. Staedtler say it is fast-drying, waterproof and permanent when dry, and the 893 blending liquid can dissolve it again if you want a soft washed edge.
