Yellow 1: The Primary Yellow In Staedtler Pigment Arts
This pack contains ten pigment brush pens in Staedtler colour 1 yellow, article 371-1, the clear primary yellow at the start of the 371 colour list.
Yellow is usually the first colour down. Because Multi Ink is translucent and Staedtler say colours can be mixed by layering, a dried yellow base under 3 blue reads as green and under 2 red as orange, so one yellow stretches a small pen set a long way. On its own it paints sunflowers, lemons, wattle, sunshine and taxi cabs, and in a planner it flags the headings you want to find again.
Two things to know. Pale yellow will not cover a dark colour, so lay it first and work darker on top. And for fine lines a darker outline helps, since yellow on white is low contrast. For a softer version there is 105 pastel yellow; for an earthier one, 16 golden ochre.
Yellow 1 appears in several Staedtler sets, among them 371 C6-5 Yellows and Oranges, 371 C12-5 Warm Colours and 371 C24. The ink is water-based and pigmented, and Staedtler rate it as permanent, waterproof and highly lightfast.
