HB Refill Leads For 2 mm Lead Holders
Staedtler Mars carbon 200-HB is a tray of twelve 2 mm HB leads, the middle grade for anyone who drafts, sketches or writes with a clutch-style lead holder.
Staedtler make these as refill leads for all common 2 mm lead holders, naming their own Mars technico 780 C. Each lead is 130 mm long with a rounded diameter of about 2 mm, and Staedtler recommend them for use on paper and drawing card.
HB sits in the centre of the seven Mars carbon degrees, 4B, 2B, B, HB, H, 2H and 4H. It is firm enough to hold a point for lettering and construction lines but dark enough for notes that photocopy cleanly, so it is the grade most lead-holder users keep loaded. Go softer for shading and harder for faint layout lines.
A 2 mm lead is sharpened rather than clicked to a fixed width. A lead pointer, such as the Mars 502, gives the conical point that technical drawing needs. Staedtler state the leads are made in Germany.
