An Earthy Brick Red With A Dry, Dusty Stroke
Stabilo 0178035 is English Deep Red, a brownish brick red from the Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencil range, printed 1400/655 on the barrel.
English Deep Red belongs with the earth colours rather than the bright reds. It suits old brick walls, terracotta pots, rusted iron, autumn leaves and the warm shadow side of a face, and it sits comfortably next to Burnt Umber and Bister when a drawing is built from natural pigments.
ACCO describe the stroke as wonderfully dry and dusty, which is the soft, matt character people expect from pastel. The lead is 4.4mm across and sits in a wooden shaft that protects it from breaking, so it can be carried in a pencil case rather than a separate pastel box.
