Dotted thirds ruling places two dotted lines inside every 18mm space between the solid lines. Lower case letters sit in the middle band, while ascenders climb to the top line and descenders drop to the bottom. Hamelin Brands, who own Olympic, put it this way: special dotted thirds rulings assist younger students in developing their writing technique. The ruling artwork on their page shows the solid and dotted lines alternating just like that.
At 18mm the spaces are narrower than the 24mm Olympic writing books, so a class can move to this book when smaller letters suit. The big page size leaves plenty of lines per page for copying, sentences and short stories.
