Pierce The Hole, Then Thread The Tape
A lawyers bodkin is the hand tool that goes with legal tape: it pierces a hole through a document and, thanks to the eye near the point, pulls the tape back through in the same move.
ACCO list this Esselte bodkin for punching holes in papers to fit treasury tags or legal tape. It has a steel point and a wooden handle that fills the palm when pushing through a thick wad, and measures 102mm long. Thread a length of tape through the eye, push the bodkin through the pages, and draw the tape out the other side ready to tie.
It keeps pages in a fixed order without a stapler or punch, which is why it lives on the desks of legal secretaries, paralegals and records clerks. Use a cutting mat or a pad of scrap card under the papers to protect the desk.
Pair it with Esselte legal tape, see other legal office supplies, paper fasteners and Esselte.
