Black is the colour most workplaces reach for when a carton, crate or storage tub needs a name that stays put. ACCO describes the 70 as suited to porous surfaces such as cardboard and wood and to non-porous surfaces such as steel and glass, so the same marker can label a carton in the stockroom, a timber crate on the loading dock and a steel shelf in the archive room.
The ink is alcohol based and, in ACCO's words, dries instantly, so a freshly labelled box can go straight onto the stack. ACCO lists an acrylic fibre nib drawing a 1.5mm line, a width that suits carton labels, shelf codes and short part numbers alike.
